In a book called “Evidence Not Seen” the story is told of Darlene, who was captured and imprisoned by the Japanese during World War II. Her faith was severely tried under torture and near starvation. Their names were Corrie Ten Boom and her sister Betsy. They were made to live in barracks crammed with hundreds of other female prisoners infested with lice. Corrie struggled with fear and doubt, but her sister reminded her to be thankful for the lice because they kept the soldiers from wanting to enter the barracks. The soldiers’ aversion to the lice provided them privacy so that each night a group of the women gathered around Betsy and Corrie as they read the scriptures to them.ĭarlene Deibler Rose was a missionary in Indonesia and was captured and imprisoned by the Japanese during World War II.
